JANTA CYCLE: An electric bicycle for India
Our involvement in designing the “Janta” cycle was from the initial idea of designing and developing an
electric bicycle for the Indian rural masses. After finalizing the technical specification of the battery, motor
and electronics with the clients technical team, we designed the chassis using metal tubes. A principle
chassis prototype was made and tested and then styling was done to complete the final product.
DESIGN FEATURES:
The cycle was made to resemble a moped to give an aspiration value to the customers.
The product was made lightweight ( use of plastic panels) so that people can manually cycle when battery
goes off.
The motor was placed on the chassis frame so that standard cycle wheels can be used.
Batteries were positioned at the center to give better stability to the cycle.
All aggregates used were standard which made the cost of the product and development low.
Storage below the seat.
